ML Protein Design Bootcamp Now Available on YouTube
Hosted in November 2025 by the University of California Davis, this course provides a practical, beginner-friendly overview of modern AI/ML tools for protein structure prediction and design, including AlphaFold, ESMFold, ProteinMPNN, and RFdiffusion, along with the workflows that connect them.
This is a relatively novice-level course. The curriculum is focused on understanding and using existing tools—how they work at a high level, their inputs and outputs, strengths and limitations, and when to apply each method within a design pipeline. It will also introduce core concepts in deep learning and compute (e.g., PyTorch, GPUs vs CPUs) to better interpret and use these tools effectively. However, proficiency with Python, PyMOL, and the command line are necessary prior to starting the course.
We’d like to thank the course instructors Ian Anderson (UC Davis), Ben Orr (UCSF), and Mary Reilly (UC Davis) for putting this course together and sharing it with the community.
